11 November 2021: Remembrance Day Ceremony activities:

Remembrance Day Activities and Poppy Campaign Support:

-The Barrie Legion will be holding a small Remembrance Day ceremony outside at the Legion starting at 1000 hrs. This is open to everyone who wishes to observe it.  The ceremony in the Legion Hall will begin at 10:45am. Those who have been invited are to bring proof of full vaccination. All guests will be seated, with social distancing and you must wear a protective mask. Rogers TV and CTV have been asked to broadcast this ceremony so that the people downstairs can watch or watch in the comfort of your own home. The ceremony will have no prior parade, bands, or singing. Only one wreath is to be laid during the ceremony – that by our Silver Cross Mother. When the Ceremony ends (around 11:30 a.m.) guests are invited to remain for a light lunch courtesy of the Legion Ladies Auxiliary.

Members of the community, local organizations, or businesses that would like to place a wreath at the Memorial Square Cenotaph are asked to make arrangements in advance. To order a wreath, contact the Legion at (705)728-1412. If you already have a wreath, it can also be dropped off at the Legion Hall (410 St. Vincent Street, driveway entrance off Ferris Lane) between 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. on November 10 or prior to 9 a.m. on November 11. Following the ceremony, the wreaths will be respectfully placed at the Memorial Square Cenotaph in downtown Barrie afterward and anyone wishing to keep their wreath can pick it up from the downtown Cenotaph by end of day on November 12.

-There will be a small ceremony at the Cenotaph in Coldwater, next door to the Legion, on Nov 11, beginning at 10:45 a.m..  No marching troops.  Most wreaths will be pre-positioned.  Public attendance is discouraged.

-The Wasaga Beach Remembrance Parade & Service is scheduled for Sunday Nov 7th at 11:00 hr. If you plan to attend, then assemble at OPP Station for march off 10:45.  Most wreaths are to be laid prior but not all. Jane and Bob Coxon plan to attend and it would be great to have as many members of 441 also to carry on our Wing tradition.

-The Barrie Legion is looking for volunteers to go to various locations within the city to be canvassers for their poppy campaign. They only have a handful of volunteers so far and they have three dozen locations that need to be covered on a daily basis around the city. If you can help out please call the Legion to volunteer at 705-728-1412 or contact Fern Taillefer at 705-718-3847.
